Artist Statement
"Algorithmic Cityscapes I & II" materializes the invisible systems that increasingly govern our urban environments. Through stark monochromatic geometries and deliberate distortions, these works reveal how digital surveillance and computational algorithms mediate our experience of physical space. QR codes and grid patterns recur throughout as symbols of control and access, creating portals where concrete structures dissolve into abstract patterns of data. Each composition stages a confrontation between the tangible city and its virtual underpinnings, exposing the digital infrastructure that remains largely hidden yet omnipresent. Drawing from queer perspectives on surveillance, the work critically examines how algorithmic systems enforce binaries and classifications. The rigid geometries hint at systems of oversight while simultaneously suggesting possible points of resistance--places where bodies and identities that defy simple categorization might disrupt algorithmic governance.
