Shell on a Silvery Tray

Artist Statement
In January I painted from life every day and experimented with a new, for me, palette that used Permanent Rose as my red. I set up the shell on a silvery tray with an engraved surface and let it be backlit with a spotlight, otherwise seen in natural light. The interior of the shell glowed in pinks and orange tones that are reflected in the tray. The engraving was scraped out with a palette knife to make the tray surface visible.
